Topper: $5.7 Million in Grants Awarded to Bedford, Fulton Counties

BEDFORD – House Republican Leader Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton) announced that municipalities in Bedford and Fulton counties received nearly $5.7 million through the Local Share Account (LSA) program.
“These funds will have a positive impact on the lives of district residents,” Topper said. “The projects run the gamut of improving infrastructure and public safety to increasing recreational opportunities to residents. I am grateful to have had a hand in securing these funds for our communities.”
• Bedford Borough Municipal Authority: $334,000 to replace the waterline along Barclay Drive. The pipeline replacement will take place from the intersection of Jefferson Road and Barclay Drive to the intersection of Barclay Drive with Fyan Lane.
• Bedford Borough Municipal Authority: $219,000 to purchase a new Caterpillar 926M wheel loader to assist with daily tasks.
• Bedford Fulton Joint Recreation Authority: $30,622 to purchase a new tractor with a mowing attachment and front-end loader to help maintain the sides of the 8.5-mile Old PA Pike Trail and tunnels to make it safe for hikers and bicyclists.
• Bedford Township Municipal Authority: $90,000 to purchase a new sewer camera to assist with performing investigative work and complete normal system maintenance.
• Belfast Township Municipal Authority: $713,675 to construct a water reservoir with backup power for the Needmore Water System.
• Cumberland Valley Township: $114,730 to purchase of a plow/dump truck.
• East Providence Township: $260,790 for the Breezewood Volunteer Fire Department to purchase 27 new self-contained breathing apparatus and associated equipment.
• East Providence Township Municipal Authority: $141,000 to purchase a new, upgraded generator at the wastewater treatment facility to increase energy efficiency and allow all elements to be up to date.
• Everett Borough Area Municipal Authority: $557,750 to replace mainline and water service pipes throughout parts of its service area.
• Hopewell Borough: $284,542 to construct a fire access boat ramp to the Juniata River along SR 915. River users will also benefit from the ramp as there are plans to allow public use.
• Hopewell Borough: $111,496 to purchase a new utility dump truck equipped with a snowplow.
• Hopewell Township: $195,750 to make improvements to its sewage treatment plant and pumping stations.
• Liberty Township: $107,000 to demolish a former school building that has been vacant for 21 years and grade the site with stone to create a parking lot to serve as the primary parking area for an adjacent park that currently utilized on-street parking.
• Licking Creek Township: $122,000 to construct roadway safety improvements at the intersection of T-404 and SR 1007.
• Londonderry Township: $143,148 to purchase a backhoe, replacing a current 25-year-old piece of equipment.
• Napier Township: $560,237 to purchase two new trucks, a 2025 International MV607 and a 2024 Ford F600 for the public works department.
• Saxton Borough Municipal Authority: $762,500 to complete upgrades at its facility.
• Snake Spring Township Municipal Authority: $67,530 to purchase a 2024 Ford Transit-350 van and outfit it with strobe light bars.
• Southampton Township: $78,400 to construct a pole building to store township vehicles and equipment.
• Taylor Township: $149,005 to purchase a new truck with a snowplow.
• Wells Township: $279,574 to purchase a John Deere tractor with a mower attachment and a 2025 Ford F250 pickup truck.
• West Providence Township Municipal Authority: $253,000 to realign the Scalia sewer trunk line, which includes sewer lateral replacement, manhole replacement, bypass pumping and erosion controls where necessary.
• Woodbury Borough: $86,556 to purchase a new truck to aid in the various tasks, including snow removal.
All of the projects were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development. The above grants were funded through the LSA, supported by revenue collected as part of Pennsylvania’s Gaming Act, not by taxpayer dollars.
